Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise: A Luxury Stay

After a short stay exploring beautiful Banff, we booked in for a luxury night stay at the iconic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. If you’re familiar with Lake Louise, you may recognise the gorgeous fairytale lake building located right next to the shimmering turqoise waters of Lake Louise. Visiting at the end of March, we switched in these aquamarine waters for a huge blanket of snow and blue ice rinks.

Arriving at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Our arrival at the Fairmont couldn’t have been better in all honesty! Doormen dressed wonderfully in what appeared to be Peter Pan costumes and greeted us on arrival. We tossed over the car keys and relaxed in the comfort of valet parking whilst waiting to check in.

Much to the excitement of our concierge, they upgraded us to the ‘Gold Package’. We were swiftly escorted onto the seventh floor which was exclusive to Gold members. Here, a private concierge greeted us warmly in a lounge which featured a kitchen with private seating, board games, drinks of all varieties, and hors d’oeuvres.

Of course, first we had to check out our room, which was a wonderful lake view.

After the drive and multiple hikes that day, we went to check out the canapes on offer in our private lounge. Of course, it would be rude not to have a glass or two as well!

With full bellies, we were eager to get out and explore our new surroundings. It really was a winter wonderland at the start of spring.

By this point, I’d already lost count of the amount of warning signs we’d already encountered on our trip. Mountain goats, sudden weather changes, avalanches, falling ice, thin ice – you name it!

It was really hard to believe one of the world’s most famous lakes was there for half the year. Nevertheless, we walked across to explore the view. It felt so strange when I was brought up being told about the dangers of walking on ice! We weren’t alone though – we watched as a small group of cross-country skiiers glided across the lake.

Already you can tell from the glacier how the lake gets its beautiful and unique colour throughout the summer months. We stood still for a moment and were in awe of the deathly silence around us. It was so tranquil. In fact, I couldn’t remember the last time I heard white noise, especially since living in downtown Vancouver.

With the moon slowly emerging and the mountains peering down on us in a pretty intimidating fashion, we began to take the slippery walk back towards the hotel.

We warmed up with a bottle of red, as well as some cheese and crackers. We had a flick of some of the books in the lounge before an awesome night’s sleep, all in anticipation of the next day.

  1. Hello! Do you remember about how much it cost for you in total with the upgrade or did they upgrade you for free of charge? Looking to go on a last minute getaway!

    1. Hey Kitling! We were lucky enough to get the update for free much to our surprise, but I’d recommend going to the Fairmont regardless. It was a beautiful hotel and such a lovely retreat. Let me know if you end up going! 🙂
