Toronto in a Day: What I Did

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see I’ve just returned from an awesome trip to Toronto! I’d only visited the city for a day before, having been to Niagara Falls and purely did the very touristy move of going up the CN Tower and seeing little else.

Brunch in Queen West

Jordan and I arrived after a long weekend in Long Sault in northern Ontario, and I was excited to get out and explore the city. First stop: brunch! As Jordan has a knack of discovering hidden gems, we headed to Frankie’s Diner in Queen West. Head there if you like big portions and delish hollandaise!

Unfortunately, the weather in the city wasn’t the best – a little cloudy you could say. Charging on like true tourists, it didn’t stop us finding all the city sights. Thankfully, the sun popped out over the next few days when we explored the Toronto islands – somewhere I’d definitely recommend visiting!

Distillery District

We set off for the Distillery District, a collection of buildings from the 1800s including a whiskey distillery, known for its cobbled streets and charming restaurants and shops. It reminded me so much of Gloucester Docks, if you’ve ever swung by that way!

Heading back to Union Station to catch the train home, we passed this quirky fountain. I really liked it’s representation of the city – everyone just trying to their own golden bone.

The sky was so cloudy, we couldn’t even get a proper glimpse of the CN Tower!

Thankfully, the next day brought much better weather, where I could actually see it in all its glory.

I went to explore as much as I could whilst Jordan was at work – here’s Sugar Beach, an urban waterfront beach known for its cute pink parasols. Who knew there are so many amazing beaches in Toronto? I definitely saw a few during my trip to the Six.

One of my favourite things about the city is all the street art you’ll find round corners and on walls, and of course the omnipresence of that famous tower.

As night fell and after dinner in nearby King City, we went for drinks in the city. I loved seeing the city at night, especially the patriotic CN Tower with it’s white and red lights. We headed for the Library Bar at the iconic Fairmont Royal York. It was still decorated with pictures of Harry and Meghan and visits from the Queen when the building was once the largest in the British Empire.

The perfect end to the start of a mini break in Toronto!
