Tips for Staying Positive During Covid-19
There’s no denying that the arrival of Covid-19 to the world is an incredibly unsettling time. It can be difficult to stay positive and everything can seem a little overwhelming. Things are changing day by day, and with self isolation taking its toll on all of us, life’s hard right now. It’s important to remember that we’re all in this together, and that we will come through the other side. Self isolation can even be an opportunity to work on yourself and make the most of this valuable time – check out my self isolation activities. Meanwhile, follow my top tips for staying positive during Covid-19.
Find joy in the everyday
Without being able to go out freely, it’s important to make your space as homely and comfortable as possible. Focus on the little things that make you happy. Perhaps it’s spending time in a particular room in your house. Maybe it’s getting up and seeing the sunrise, having fresh flowers at home to look at, or enjoying your favourite cereal. Whatever makes you happy, do more of it. Make sure there’s something in your day that makes you smile – this is one of the key tips for staying positive during Covid-19.

Focus on cooking
Being based indoors, meals will naturally become a greater focus of your day. This is even more the case given that most of us aren’t venturing out to cafes or restaurants for dinner. Cooking can be a great motivation for your day, and making something delicious can add a real boost of positivity. Plan three nutritious meals, and during your supermarket trips you can pick up all the ingredients. Good food – especially when you can share it with someone – can make all the difference to staying positive during Covid-19.

Take regular exercise
With self isolation in full flow, there’s never been a more important time for exercise. If running’s your thing, apps like Strava can be great for tracking your progress and improvement. It’s a good way to track your data and use it as a motivator. Perhaps yoga classes or online home workouts are more your thing. There are so many apps and workout classes now streaming across Instagram Live to give you a little variety. As well as keeping you fit and healthy, the endorphins from exercise are a top tip for staying positive during Covid-19.

Take up a hobby
Either starting a new hobby or picking up something you already love is perfect in times like these. Self isolation is a great opportunity to learn something new. Try your hand at baking, or perhaps you’ll study a new course, or take on a craft like knitting or painting. You’ll have plenty of time to practice and finesse your techniques, and it’s a great way of taking your mind off the world. The best bit is that once we’re through the self isolation of Covid-19, you’ll be able to look back and be proud of your progress.

Switch off from the news
With so much changing in our lives and the world on a daily basis, it can be pretty overwhelming. Constant reminders of the effect of Covid-19 and its consequences can really have an affect on our mental health. Although it’s important to stay informed and follow government guidance, there can be too much news. One of my top tips for staying positive during Covid-19 is to switch off from the news, and only check it say once a day at roughly the same time. This way, you’re informed and it can help manage your anxiety.

Stay mindful
Practicing mindfulness during this stressful period of Covid-19 can make a huge difference to your daily life. With so much change and uncertainty, it’s important to take some time out of your routine to focus on your mind. Apps like Clementine offer a series of hypnotherapy sessions to help boost confidence and aid with sleeping. It’s a great opportunity to clear your mind from the increased amount of stress we’re all facing. One of my top tips for staying positive during Covid-19 is to meditate or focus on you each day.

Stay in touch with family and friends
One of the top ways to stay positive during Covid-19 is undoubtedly by speaking to others. Although not all of us are lucky enough to live with our loved ones, technology makes it so easy. Check in daily with vulnerable people you know – a simple chat or video call can make all the difference. FaceTiming or using the Houseparty app are excellent platforms for connecting you with family and friends. Use it to maintain contact – perhaps you can enjoy evening wine with friends or run a pub quiz to stay social.

Look to the future
Although this is difficult given our uncertainty, planning for the future can help bring optimism. Whether it’s postponing a friend’s birthday plans or the next get together you can have with family, it helps putting action in place. Often it can give you something to focus on and have a little control over, which is why it’s a top tip for staying positive during Covid-19. Thanks for this list, I have really been following the numbers as it continuously increases and it can be overwhelming and disheartening, switching off is sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself and your state of mind.
Hope you’re staying safe and well – I was doing the same but it’s important to remember it’s out of your control and you don’t always need to track every movement. Hope you find some peace of mind in the list! 🙂
Yes for sure. Thank you. Stay safe 🙂
You’ve shared some good ideas. Looking at the coronavirus news only once a day is a plan that I’ve just started to follow. I do want to know what’s going on, but checking the news multiple times can make the day a very tense one.
Thanks, Linda – I couldn’t agree more. It’s important to know what’s going on but sometimes it really can all feel like too much!
