A Day at the Races

After some time spent on the Toronto Islands, we decided to mix up our trip a little and go and do something different. Cue a trip to Woodbine Racetrack for a day at the races! Donning our summer dresses and heels, we caught a taxi out to the Mississauga area and purchased our tickets. For around $40, you can get a buffet and a great view of the track, or simply enjoy free entry and a seat indoors.

We got some great seats for getting there earlier on, and I’d highly recommend doing the same so you get to make the most of the delicious buffet! If you’re foodies like us, you’ll get to indulge on prime rib, seafood, salads, brunch, omelettes, and lots of amazing desserts. We certainly made the most of it!

Feeling pretty full after a few plates of indulgence and a couple of cocktails, we placed some bets and headed out to cheer on our horses.

When the wind picked up, we could always head back inside to get a great view of the course from our very own table. Along, perhaps, with a dessert or two from the buffet!

Sadly, we didn’t have any winners but it was a great day out nonetheless! If you’re looking for something a little different to do in the Toronto area, head to Woodbine. Having had a little power nap, we wanted to explore some of Toronto’s rooftop bars so set off down the street to District on King Street West which was great for some sharing platters and rhubarb cocktails.

One of my favourite things about Toronto is definitely the great nightlife and awesome independent restaurants and bars – there’s certainly more of a scene here than back home in Vancouver.

Of course, nothing beats Toronto by night when you turn the corner and see the CN Tower glowing up.

We walked via Nathan Phillips Square to see the famous Toronto sign at night – I thought it looks more impressive than by day and I love the rainbow lights which make it so iconic.

An awesome way to round off my Toronto trip and I’m sad to be leaving!

Have you been to the races at Toronto? What would you recommend seeing in this city?
