We set off today on a walk in the hot sunshine. Having hopped on a bus, we arrived at the super iconic Bondi Beach which was great to see after hearing so much about one of Sydney’s most famous beaches.
I must admit, I was a little underwhelmed! I felt exactly the same when I visited Waikiki Beach, another iconic beach which is glamourised in popular culture but in reality is pretty crowded and commercialised. I much prefer a beach that is peaceful but beautiful, like Palm Beach north of Sydney. How about you?
Once we had a good look over Bondi Beach, we set off on the Bondi to Coogee beach coastal walk. It’s one of Sydney’s most famous walks, and – as we soon found out – very popular with locals. You can totally see why though. There are some incredible views and it’s lovely to walk along the coast for a while, just soaking up the views and the atmosphere. A great place for a daily run!
The walk takes around an hour and a half with the odd short break, and depending on how quickly you plan to walk it whilst taking in the marvellous scenery. I would, however, advise walking during the week – we went on a Sunday and it was heaving with locals jogging and walking, particularly as it was such a beautiful, hot day.
You just come across view after incredible view on the walk.
You never have to go far before finding a swimming pool perched at the edge of the ocean.
Just before we reached Coogee Beach, we bumped into a little beach on the way. It was so pretty and reminded me of a hot, tropical version of Cornwall in the UK. I can see why it was the setting of a photoshoot whilst we were there.
After taking in some beautiful views and seeing a handful of the world’s best beaches, I finished the day with sushi. I haven’t yet mentioned how great the sushi is in Australia – really good quality stuff. And it’s everywhere! I certainly didn’t complain.
Have you done the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk? Are there any other walks in Sydney you’d recommend? I’d love to hear about them!
